PROGRAMMES OF IQAC

Dibrugarh, 8th February, A 7 days long ICSSR sponsored workshop on Manuscriptology and Textual Criticism was held at MDKG College, Dibrugarh from 1st-7th February, 2021. The workshop was jointly organized by the Departments of Sanskrit, Assamese & History in association with the District Library, Dibrugarh. Dr Nibedita Phukan, the Principal of the college explained the objective of the event while welcoming the gathering in the inaugural function which was graced among others by Ms D Das, librarian, Dibrugarh District Library. Dr Sristidhar Dutta, eminent educationist & former Dean of Social Sciences, Rajib Gandhi University formally inaugurated the event with a splendid speech and hailed the organizers for holding such a workshop. Prof. Dutta, who has himself done a lot of work on Manuscriptology, also mentioned that the workshop will bring awareness amongst the participants to study the manuscripts which are yet to be collected and textually edited. Dr. B. K. Barua, Prof. Emeritus of Dibrugarh University and a distinguished scholar & linguist, in his keynote speech, addressed various aspects of Manuscriptology and text editing. Dr. Ratna Basu, Professor of Calcutta University (Rtd.) an eminent expert on Manuscriptology of both National and International fame, Prof. B. K. Barua, Prof. D. D. Nath, Vice Chancellor, Majuli Cultural University, Dr. Utpal Das, Librarian i/c, L. N. B. Central Library, D. U. and Dhanjit Talukdar, Archival Assistant, K. K. HANDIQUE LIBRARY, G. U. took part in various sessions of the Workshop as Resource Persons. Topics covered in the Workshop were - Origin and Antiquity of Indian Writing, Scope and Necessity of Textual Criticism & Manuscriptology, Familiarizing with different Ancient Scripts of Indian Manuscripts, Methodology of Transcription, Scientific Study of Manuscriptology, Biological Deterioration of Wood Origin Manuscript Heritage, Scientific Conservation & Preservation of Sanchipat, Identification of Manuscripts, Introducing Old Manuscripts of Assam etc. About thirty Participants who came from different educational institutes from Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Dhemaji & Moran were imparted training on reading Sanskrit, Assamese & Tai Manuscripts. Sahitya Akademi awardee & former Dean of Humanities, DU Prof N. K Handique graced the Valedictory function as distinguished guest. Certificates were distributed to the participants in the function.

The Alumni Association, MDK Girls’ College organised a National Level Webinar on ‘GENDER,SOCIETY AND POLITICS’ in association with IQAC ,MDK GIRLS College on 21/08/2020.Dr.Alpana Borgohain ,Professor and Former Head ,Department of Women’s Studies ,Gauhati Uniersity acted as a resource person in the Webinar.The Webinar was innaugurated by Dr.Nibedita Phukan ,Principal ,MDK Girls College.In her speech,Dr.Phukan highlighted the need of gender sensitisation in the society and the intricate relationship between gender issues ,society and politics. Dr.Utpal Sut ,coordinator ,IQAC also offered the welcome speech focussing on the signifiacance of such an academic event.The resource person ,Dr.Alpana Borgohain in details analysed the relationship between Gender ,Society and Politics and discussed the problem of gender bias in the way of their over all development and political participation.Prof Borgohain very aptly pointed out in her speech that women are equipped with all qualities to emerge as important social agent but the issue of ‘gender’ comes as a barrier in different fronts to prevents women’s growth and elevation.The case has more exeggerated in the prevailing covid situation when women are being confined within the threashold of family and home.The Webinar was very vibrant with the active participation of 65 participants.The participants ,very enthusiastically participated in the webinar and expressed their apprehension and opinions regarding women,gender ,society and politics.The webinar was moderated by Dr.Anita Sharma and vote of thanks was offered by Prof.Dipanwita Bora, respectively joint secretaries of Alumni Association.

The Department of Political Science,MDK Girls’ College organised a Lecture titled India China Tussle:Context ,Contestation and Challenges on 30/08/2020 as a part of Department’s annual lecture series.Two highly accalaimed resource persons in the academic field namely Dr.P.Krishna Mohan Reddy ,Assistant Professor ,Department of History ,Sri Venkataswara University ,Tirupati and Dr.Netajee Abhinandan,Assistant professor ,Department of Political Science ,Revenshaw University ,Cuttack delivered their expertised lecture in the academic field as resource person. The programme was innaugurated by Dr.Nibedita Phuakan,Principal ,MDK Girls college with her opening remark .The welcome speech was offered by Dr.Utpal Sut ,Coordinator IQAC stressing the importance of such an academic endeavour .In his lecture ,Prof P.K.Reddy deliberated on the historical legacy of Indo-China relation and its present status .While developing the discourse ,prof Reddy also highlighted the geo-politics of Indo-China relations and its implication on the on-going tussle between the two major power of the Asia.Another resource person ,Dr.Netajee Abhinandan,a chinese scholar deliberated on the contemporary relation between china and India mainly focusing on the areas of contestation,the reasons inolved and the chasing competition between the two countries to become the hegemon of the Asia Pacific region.In his lecture Prof .Abhinandan expressed satisfaction about India’s emerging capabilities in the defence and stratagic sectors.The lecture programme was a very sucessful one with the active participation with more than 70 participants The session was moderated by Dr.Anita Sharama,Assistant Professor,Department of Political Science and the vote of thanks was offered by Prof.Rupjyoti Das,HOD,Department of Political Science.

A symposium on 75 years of India’s freedom struggle was held on 12th March, 2021in room no.1 of Arts block of MDKG College, Dibrugarh. At the very outset, Dr.Utpal Sut, IQAC Coordinator extended warm welcome to all the participants of the symposium. Dr.Sut stated the objective of holding the symposium. Mrs. Purnima Chutia, Vice-Principal of science stream of the college attended the symposium as Juri member. Dr. Anita Sharma, assistant professor in the department of political science of the college delivered speech as resource person in the symposium. In her deliberations, Dr. Sharma included the freedom fighters of India with special reference to north-eastern region of India. Dr. Sharma clearly explained the role women in freedom struggle of India with emphasis on critical dimensions of Indian society. Dr. Sharma also emphasised on the exploration of different women freedom fighters who were not imprinted on the books of history of India. Mrs.Purnima Chutia, Vice Principal of the science stream of the college explained the legacy of historical evidence to justify the role of freedom fighters in freedom struggle of India. Dr. Sut added the historical evidences of Indian freedom fighters in freedom struggle and he explained the very fact of paralysing the economic freedom of Indian people during the reign of British in India. Dr.Rizia Begum Laskar, assistant professor in the department of English explained the role of Bengal people in Indian freedom movement. Mr.Utpal Gogoi, assistant professor in the department of History explained the importance of social and economic freedom to fight against the slavery of the Indian society with citation of Russian revolution. All total thirty six participants participated in the symposium. At the end, Dr.Sut offered vote of thanks to all the participants of the symposium for their active participation.

Webinar by Department of Assamese

Webinar on “Asomor Jatiya Jibanar uttaranat sampratik samayar baidyutin Madhyamar somohar bhumika” was organised by the assamese department of MDKG College in association with Internal Quality Cell (IQAC) of the College on 26th September,2020. The webinar was inaugurated by Dr. Nibedita Phukan,Principal of the College and Dr.Gayatry Devi Goswami,Vice-Principal addressed the welcome address. Dr. Utpal Sut, IQAC Coordinator introduced the resource persons to the participants. Journalists Mr.Ritusmin Sharma and Shankar Dutta delivered speech as resource persons in the webinar. both the resource persons of the webinar vividly discussed the role of electronic medium in the progress of the life of the people of Assam. In vibrant 100 participants participated in the webinar. Dr. Bolin Handique, associate professor of the department of Assamese anchored the webinar and Mr. Aniruddha Dutta,Associate Professor of department of Assamese proposed vote of thanks to Prinipal,Vice-Principal, Resouce person ,IQAC Coordinator and participants of the webinar.

Webinar on “Asomiya Bhasar Manyatakaranat Upabhasgata rupar prasangikta”was organised 21st August, 2020 by the department of Assamese of MDKG College in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the College through ZOOM platform. The webinar was inaugurated by Dr. Nibedita Phukan, Principal of the college and welcome to participants addressed by Dr.Gayatry Devi Goswami,Vice- Principal of the College.  Dr. Utpal Sut,IQAC Coordinator introduced the resource person of the webinar to the participants. Dr. Rabha Hakasam,Professor of Gauhati University  acted as resource person in the webinar. Professor Hakasam explained how the entry of sub language in main Assamese language occurred and how it had affected the main root of Assamese language. He explained the fact from different angles and made it interesting with his simplified deliberation. The webinar was anchored by Dr. Bolin Handique, Associate professor of Assamese department and Dr. Anju Borah proposed vote of thanks to Principal, Resource person ,IQAC Coordinator and participants of the webinar.
